Herdade do Portocarro's philosophy is to make artisanal wines with charisma. Close to the Atlantic and halfway between the Setúbal Peninsula and the Alentejo, this 142 ha property, with an 18 ha vineyard, produces wine in a region where no one does. Its owner and producer, José da Mota Capitão, inspired by biodynamic viticulture, has been recovering extinct native grape varieties and experimenting with some of the classic Portuguese grape varieties, giving rise to unique, innovative and full of personality wines. Appointed producer of the year in 2015 and having won the title of “Producer of the Year in 2016” by the most respected Portuguese wine magazine “Wine Essência do Vinho”, José Mota Capitão has been positioning himself in the ranking of the best wine producers nationals.
