Haja Cortezia Vinhas Velhas Family Red 2017

27.50 €

The Colares Wine Region was demarcated in 1908, being the second oldest demarcated region in the country. Located in an area of dunes, on the coast of the municipality of Sintra, between the Serra and the Atlantic Ocean, from Cabo da Roca to the villages of Assafora and Cortesia. Colares' connection to wine is lost in time, but it is known that at the time of the Roman occupation wine was already being made in this region. Later, in 1230, King D. Afonso III, handed over lands to the nobles under the condition of implementing the cultivation of vines. The region of Colares became famous at the end of the 19th century, more precisely in 1865, when its greatest threat, phylloxera, collapsed on world viticulture. Unlike what happened throughout Europe, the vineyards of the Colares region resisted this tiny insect, from the Americas, which devastated most of the vineyards throughout Europe. In Colares, due to the depth of the roots, the insect did not propagate as it did in other types of soil. The proximity to the sea and the adjacent weather conditions make all the work in the vineyard more demanding, on the other hand, these are factors that outline the authenticity of our Terroir.
